IMPORTANT: Read if you’ll be flying with Electric Guitar Gear

If you’ll be flying anywhere (in the US) soon where you’ll need your guitar gear, you may seriously want to look at having your pedalboard/rack electronics shipped via UPS, FedEx, etc. to the venue and returned to you the same way.

This morning, I had lunch with a friend who plays for a well known Christian artist… and he told me that guitar pedals particularly get scrutinized at many FAA checkpoints. Last night, his band was flying from Southern California to Michigan… at the departure location, security disassembled the artists Fulltone FD2… when they arrived at the venue this morning, it wasn’t working. Additionally, the band’s lead guitarist has replaced most everything on his board in the last twelve months due to damage from disassembly at airport checkpoints…

  1. Crazy, I had no idea about this! Great tip!

  2. Your site is quite awesome and very practical. Thanks for your ministry.

What about travelling with a guitar? – does the TSA guys disassemble a guitar too? How best to travel with an acoustic and an electric guitar?

  3. Hey Kirk, the guys didn’t mention any problems with their guitars. (I’m sure I would have heard about it if they were, they travel with a couple ’60’s and ’70’s vintage guitars…)
